Some of the classic theories of psychology focus on the importance of experience and how it shapes behavior and personality. Three of the major theories that describe and explain how children learn include: Classical conditioning: This type of learning involves making an association between a stimulus and a response.?? Even if you have only a passing knowledge of psychology, chances are that you have probably heard of Pavlovs dogs. In a classic experiment, Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov discovered that repeatedly pairing the sound of a bell with the presentation of food caused dogs to associate the tone itself with food. Once the association was formed, the sound of the bell alone could make the dogs begin to salivate in anticipation of a meal. Children learn in much the same way, developing associations between things in their environment and potential consequences. For example, an infant might quickly begin to associate the sight of a baby bottle with being fed.Operant conditioning: When you reward a behavior, chances are that same behavior is likely to occur again in the future.?? When a behavior is punished, it becomes less likely that it will occur again in the future. These prin ciples underlie the concept of operant conditioning, a set of learning techniques that utilizes reinforcement and punishment to either increase or decrease a response. For example, when a child is rewarded for cleaning her room, she becomes more likely to repeat the same behavior later on.Observational learning: As you might expect, kids can learn a great deal simply from watching their parents, peers, and siblings.?? Even the behaviors they observe on television, video games and the Internet can impact their own thoughts and actions. Because observational learning is so powerful, it is important to ensure that kids are observing the right kind of behaviors. By modeling good behaviors and appropriate responses, parents can be sure that their kids are learning how to act responsibly. 7 Theories on Child Development Other Types of Experience In addition to the kinds of learning that occur on a day-to-day basis, there are a number of other experiences that can play a major role in shaping a childs development. The experiences that parents and other caregivers provide during the earliest years of a childs life can be some of the most crucial.?? While some children might receive enriched childhood experiences from parents who are responsive, caring and attentive, other children might receive less attention and their parents might be distracted by worrying about money, work or relationship issues. As you might imagine, such varying experiences can have a dramatic impact on how these children develop. Children raised in nurturing environments might be more secure, confident, and capable of dealing with later challenges, while those raised in less enriched settings might feel anxious and unable to cope with lifes difficulties. Peers While a childs early social experiences may be centered on family members, this soon expands to other kids at the playground, in the neighborhood, and at school. Because children spend so much time interacting with peers in school, it may come as no surprise that other children have a major influence on a childs psychology and development. Children are very influenced by their peers, and these social experiences help shape a childs values and personality.?? Peer relationships can have a significant effect on development, both in positive and negative ways. Bullying, in particular, can have an enormously detrimental effect on a childs experience of growing up. Education School makes up an enormous part of a childs life. Teachers and classmates play a major role in making up a childs experiences, and academics and learning also leave their mark on development.?? Remember that genetics and the environment are always interacting in a dynamic way. A childs genetic background will influence his ability to learn, but good educational experiences can enhance these abilities. Some kids might struggle with learning disabilities influenced by genetics, but quality educational interventions can help kids learn and do well in school.?? Culture As you have seen so far, there are many different influences that can play a role in how a child grows and the person they eventually become. The culture that a child lives in adds yet another element to this already complex mix.?? For example, parents raising kids in individualistic cultures might focus on helping their kids develop autonomy and self-esteem, while parents in collectivist cultures are more likely to stress the importance of community, family, and society. Even within the same culture, variations in things like social status, income, and educational background can have an impact on how kids are raised. High-income parents might be more concerned with getting their kids into the best private schools, while low-income parents spend more time worrying about whether their childrens most basic needs are met. Such disparities can lead to dramatic differences in experience, which can, in turn, have a powerful impact on how kids develop. Final Thoughts on How Experience Shapes Child Development While culture can play a major role in how a child is raised, it is still important to remember that it is the interaction of influences that dictates how a child develops. His behaviour by then was characterized with apt criticism of the West hypocrisy and desire to see that they managed the greater global policies. He repeated that the holocaust needed to e researched. The aftermath was an onslaught on his sanity and audacity as a leader.   Diplomacy and amnesty Ahmednijad might have opted to appease Americans through diplomacy. There are many issues within the history of the West problem with Iran. Both view each other as a threat to the others interest only that the West is autonomous, militarily stronger and more strategic economically and politically. Iran is only a minnow with more strategic position within religious lines and political-religious positions. This aspect has spared it the possible military strike by Americans. Although the United States has been more cautious with Iran, the debut of France in the anti Iran sentiment and the promise of military action as an eventuality add panache to the West desire to stop Iran’s strategic position growth. Ahmednijad wants to prove he is the key to the Middle East problem since he represents the radical ness and the extremist policies the Islamic community. The Iranian leader acted in speed to show his stand and diplomatic aspects as a leader. He advised his government to release a Californian businessman Ali Shekri who had been jailed in Iran. He morally was seeking retribution and sought to justify desire to establish peace and cohesiveness. But due to the abrasiveness and blindness of the American lawmakers and leaders, the Iranian leader saw no relenting. But contextually, what was the motive of his intentions? Why would such an anti American leader wish to make a symbolic visit to a place where people from his religion and community killed thousands of innocent lives? This makes the Iranian leader controversial. In the event of a visit, no wonder Ahmednijads comments and sentiments would be more controversial than his remarks about the Jewish holocaust. He mght have justified jihad and the death of these people. He might have projected the Palestinian deaths within this situation as what the Americans paid with the September 11. Further within this issue, Ahmednijan could not be a target of American extremists, obviously they don’t exist, and hence, he was not amused that, it was only a matter of distaste and the hate American legislators felt for him. It might be obvious he knew he could never get a chance to visit ground zero but confirming it through seeking the permission to is outward and provocative. This as seen within an academic perspective is a character that is seeking to find leeway’s and fissures in the American society and government so as to achieve personal goals. These goals are two-way-traffic. The Iranian leader might be seeking to make peace and embrace American foreign policy and become part of the international community, or is acting with impunity as an agent of the large extremist world to learn and find weakness in the American system. We do not believe in nuclear weapons, period. It goes against the whole grain of humanity. [†¦] I think the politicians who are after atomic bombs, or testing them, making them, politically they are backward, retarded.† This seems a strategy to appease the American public on the Iranian nuclear intentions so as to pre-empt the French threat and be left with the US animosity and military intervention plans. Ahmednijad shows fear and strategic shift of his policy on nuclear weapons. This way the public debate transforms from the context of his violating the proliferation faculties and embracing religious backed extremes. Going to Columbia is an insignia of his acknowledgement of American education and federal system.He is trying to be identified with the community and seeks to tone down his strong desire to be vocal against these institutions and instead be seen as a moderator of policies. We can do a lot of things to help decrease the effect of global warming. One easy and simple way is to reduce drafts in your home. Make sure all your windows and doors in your house are free from drafts. This will mean all the overused energy that is used to heat and cool the home will be balanced out. Another thing we can do is decrease the amount of electricity we use. Some electrical appliances use electricity after they are done being used, and this is due to a phantom load. To eliminate phantom loads plug all your electrical stuff into a multi plug surge to guarantee that no extra electricity is being wasted. An additional way to reduce global warming is to use a more efficient light bulb. If every American household replaced a glowing light bulb with a compact florescent, then just about ninety billon pounds of CO2 won?t enter the atmosphere. B: What is Global Warming/ How Does the Green House Effect Work? Global Warming is an increase in the Earth?s average surface temperature. The green house effect is the natural process of the earth trapping some of the suns energy in the atmosphere to keep the planet warm enough to uphold life. Most typical scientists believe that the increase of greenhouse gases emitted by human is only increasing the effect unnaturally. The process gets its name from the greenhouses that are made to trap heat and grow plants in. Most everyone has experienced the greenhouse effect, like when you park your car in the sun and you come back and the inside is much hotter than outside. The suns energy shines through the car windows and some is absorbed by the interior. The heat the interior lets out does not all escape the car, so gradually the car is heated up. When the suns rays hit earth 70 percent is absorbed by plants, oceans and other things. The other 30 percent is reflected back into space. If there was no greenhouse effect on earth, it would probably be a lot like mars. The greenhouse effect is actually a good thing, but it has fallen out of steadiness since humans are creating so many greenhouse gases. Now we are trapping to much heat in the atmosphere. C: What are the Proposed Causes of Global Warming Human activities are considered one of the main causes of Global Warming, and a number of activities release certain greenhouse gases into the earth?s atmosphere. When humans burn fossil fuels like coal, oil, wood, and solid waste they discharge carbon dioxide in the air. The percentage of carbon dioxide emitted has increased 31% since 1750, and about ? of the increase is cause from the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. Deforestation is also another cause of Global Warming. Forests are filled with trees and trees are the largest method for removing carbon dioxide from the air. The more deforestation that occurs the less carbon dioxide is able to be removed from the air. Deforestation is just creating more heat in the atmosphere. About 33 percent of carbon dioxide in the US is from the burning of gasoline in cars. The UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change estimates that the 3.5 percent of carbon dioxide is from aviation, and that number could rise to 15 percent by 2050. Methane is another important greenhouse gas, and is 20 times more effective than CO2 at trapping heat in the atmosphere. The atmosphere level of Methane increased 145 percent in the last 100 years. Deforestation is the second main cause of CO2 emissions in the atmosphere. Deforestation is responsible for 20 to 25 percent of CO2 in the atmosphere, by burning and cutting down 34 million acres of trees each year. The destroying of these forests is releasing hundreds of millions of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year. Below are six critical strategiesto follow each time you take a practice test. #1: Print Out the Test and Take It on Paper Because the SAT is a paper test (as opposed to a computer test), it's best to take the practice tests on paper. Also, make sure youdo your scratch work directly on the test.Don't get out separate pieces of scratch paper to use since on the actual test you won't get any scratch paper (but will be allowed totake notes directly in your test booklet). Finally, if you're taking the optional Essay section, practice writing your essay using the lined paper included with your practice test. #2: Use Strict Timing on Each Section Although time pressure can be intimidating,it's important to follow official SAT time limits as closely as possible onpractice tests. Why? If, for example, you spend just two extra minutes on a section, this could raise your score by hundreds of points, since the extra time allowed you to answer more questions than you would've been able to within the actual time limit. Many of my students have told me how difficult it was to stay focused the entire time and keep themselves from making careless mistakes at the end. Preparing for the SAT is like training for a marathon: you need to ensure you have enough stamina to make it through the test.And the best way to do this is to take each practice test in one sitting, as if you were taking the actual SAT. If it's too difficult for you to find the time to take a practice test in one sitting, go ahead and split it up over several days- just make sure youadhere to the time limits for each section. Ultimately, it's better to do some SAT practice than none at all! #4: Review Your Mistakes (and Your Correct Answers, Too) Practice tests aren't just good for getting to know the SAT format and sections- they're also great for learning from your mistakes. For every practice SAT test you take, spend time reviewing both questions you got wrong and questions you got right. If you don't know why you missed a question, don't just skip it and move on; doing this means you won't learn what kind of mistake you made, raising your risk of making it over and over again. This habit can hamper your score pretty drastically. So make sure to approach your SAT prep with this in mind: quality over quantity. I'd rather have you take three practice tests with detailed review than six practice tests with no review. #5: Take At Least 4 Practice Tests Before the Actual SAT From my experience with thousands of students, this magic number works best at getting students really comfortable with the SAT in all major respects, including timing and endurance. If you want to take more than four tests, go ahead and try it out- just make sure that you balance your prep with some focused studying on your weaknesses so that you can make faster progress. #6: Use Supplemental Resources If Necessary Some students are great at learning the ins and outs of the SAT through practice tests alone- they recognize their mistakes, understand why they made them, and avoid making them in the future. But most students need additional help to pinpoint their weaknesses and teach them the skills and strategies needed for success on the SAT. Due to Jane’s age, she was thought to have dementia when she complained about feeling locked up. Anybody in an accident can feel locked up when admitted to the hospital. The nurse should have listened to the woman more carefully and tried to soothe her or even have her son come and soothe her. This leads to the most important problem. A patient diagnosed with a concussion should never be sedated. This only causes more confusion and balance loss. It might have been a temporary fix, but in the long run, was detrimental to Jane. Age was a big factor in the nursing style here. It does not matter that Jane was productive with no major problems. The nursing staff did not look past the fact Jane was eighty-three. When Jane stubbornly refused their efforts to feed and bath her, they would sedate her more. Of course, constant sedation would mimic the effects of dementia. If diagnosed and treated with a concussion, all of Jane’s problems would have a different outcome, including her broken femur. Since she was written off as having dementia, Jane was not given a rehabilitation plan. If given a rehabilitation plan, Jane would have been more at ease knowing that she was going home. The sedation confused her more. If fewer sedatives were given and a rehabilitation plan given, Jane probably could have left the hospital before going into the nursing home. Age profiling should not have occurred by the nursing staff. All of Jane’s problems could have been avoided by a different, more understanding nursing approach.

In â€Å"Oxford Concise Dictionary Literary Terms† by Chris Baldick, characterization is defined as the representation of persons in narrative and dramatic works which include direct and indirect methods in inviting the readers to infer qualities from characters’ actions, speech, or appearance. However, modals in literature context serve as an eye opener to the personality and traits of the characters in short stories. It enables the readers to learn of the characters’ abilities, capabilities, prohibitions, obligations and so forth. The appearance of modals in literary texts serves its own specific purposes in accordance to the author’s wish. In David Leavitt’s â€Å"Territory† which describes the relationship between a mother (Mrs. Campbell) and her son (Neil) who is a homosexual, gives me an interest to explore and find out more about the characters. Through the use of modals found in the extract, it enables me to go in depth and examine t he characterization in the story.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Firstly, in paragraph 2, line 1 of the extract, the modal â€Å"must† is used by David Leavitt to show one of Neil’s traits indirectly – â€Å"The last item puzzles him: Pedro. Pedro must be the gardener.† Here, as Neil read through his mother’s daily list found on the kitchen table, he came across the name â€Å"Pedro† which he was unfamiliar with. Eventually, he expressed an assumption which he believed was true. However, instead of using â€Å"could† to indicate possibility, the writer chose to use the modal â€Å"must† to reveal Neil’s inner self which was lacking in confidence and even probably having a strong need of self assurance despite the fact that the modal is meant to express certainty. Thus, the readers are able to know more of Neil’s character as the modal is used to create a reverse effect on the readers as an irony. Secondly, in this extract, Neil the protagonist is presented by the writer as a son who was torn between his own desire to follow his heart or to live up to the society and his mother’s expectations of him. He tried to vision himself as the son that his mother expects of him through the use of modal â€Å"could† – â€Å"He could make a list of his own selves: the child, the adolescent, the promiscuous faggot son, and finally the good son, settled, relatively successful.† (Paragraph 2, line 3)By using the modal â€Å"could†, it gives the readers a feeling that he is capable of doing what he was expected to and it only depends on whether he is willing or not.

From birth a baby can only lie on its back, by the end of 3months they start to lift their heads and kick their feet. At 3-6 months they can hold objects and transfer them from one hand to another. They also start to attempt to put objects in their mouths. At 9-12 months babies usually become more mobile by rolling, shuffling, or crawling. They can generally sit unaided for a length of time.Between 1-2 yrs they will be walking and although they still find it difficult to maintain balance most can climb stairs with supervision. So by the end of 2yrs they will be very mobile – walking, running, and able to negotiate steps. They can throw and kick a ball but may not be confident at catching.At 3yrs, children will know how to run, walk in all sorts of directions. They can jump from low heights, negotiate stairs confidently and ride a tricycle.By 4yrs, physically they should now be able to catch, kick, throw, and bounce a ball. Between 5-8 yrs they have mastered how to use a variet y of equipment and their physical ability will have improved greatly. At this point they are able to ride a bike without stabilisers.
